The Court of Master Sommeliers

Established in 1977, The Court of Master Sommeliers is the world’s premier international examining body, and the Master Sommelier distinction it offers is the only internationally recognised credential for individuals in the beverage sales and service fields.

Sommeliers who wish to attain the world’s most famous wine professional service qualification, “Master Sommelier,” must successfully complete four levels of exams.

These are:

1. Introductory Level
2. Certified Sommelier
3. Advance Sommelier
4. Master Sommelier Diploma

In the past, finding a single wine programme or school in the kingdom was virtually impossible. Today, however, the Court of Master Sommeliers Introductory Level and Certified Sommelier Exam programmes can be easily found in Bangkok.

The two programmes are specially designed to provide sommeliers with the knowledge they need to successfully develop, customise, and implement specific wine programmes for restaurants, hotels, cruise ships, airlines, wine shops and many other food and beverage establishments. This also includes knowledge of spirits, soft beverages, and food and wine matching or paring.

The Court of Master Sommeliers Introductory Level and Certified Sommelier Exam programmes are aimed at individuals who are passionate about wines and the hospitality business in general.

Candidates who go on to become Master Sommeliers can expect to have exciting and rewarding careers in the hospitality industry and beyond, specialising in the area of wine and beverages management, wine sales, wine marketing and in all aspects of the wine service industry.

In Thailand

Wine Today Magazine in collaboration with the Asia Wine Institute is introducing the world’s most recognised wine courses for food and beverage and wine professionals in Bangkok - with no overseas travelling.

Brian Julyan MS, CEO of the Court of Master Sommeliers Worldwide, and two other Master Sommeliers, will join Professor Tommy Lam, Wine MBA, President of the Asia Wine Institute, to open and conduct the five-day courses.

Why the Asia Wine Institute and the Court of Master Sommeliers?

1. The Asia Wine Institute is the most recognised wine institute in Asia (Singapore, Hong Kong and China).

2. The Court of Master Sommeliers is the most recognised and respected accreditation body for professional sommeliers in the world. Until recently, students could only take the exams in UK, USA and Australia - but Wine Today now brings The Court to Bangkok.

3. Those who have graduated are working in top establishments including famous fine dining restaurants, top hotels, cruise liners and leading airlines around the world (currently only three Thais are working in the kingdom).

4. Top sommeliers who have graduated from these two institutions are recognised and respected by the world’s hospitality and wine industry.

5. Those graduated are earning top salaries.

6. Those graduated are an asset to the organisations to which they belong.

Students who attend the Court of Master Sommeliers in Thailand require a good command of English, a bachelor degree in any field, and must have a minimum three years’ wine service experience.

Students who pass the Court of Master Sommeliers Introductory Level Exam will receive a certificate and be eligible to take the Level Two - Certified Sommelier Exam.
